Jimi Hendrix Plays Berlin Sportpalast

On January 23, the Experience lands in Berlin-Tempelhof airport from Vienna. The group stays at the Hotel Kempinski, with the concert taking place at the Sportpalast that night. Since this was Hendrix’s last show of his eleven-city tour, there was much anticipation. The tour started in Hamburg on January 11, and ended in Berlin. Gunther Kieser creates probably the most iconic image of Hendrix — his Hendrix wire hair image. The larger poster is 32 x 48 inches and they were hung in bus shelters and street walls. A smaller 22 x 33-inch poster was also printed, and they were hung in stores and local establishments.

Many of these posters were wheat-pasted onto walls. Rumor has it that 200 posters of each size were printed for each show. Vintage Rocks Posters offers cash rewards of up to $20,000 for the Gunther Kieser Jimi Hendrix Experience Berlin concert poster and any other posters on the 1969 German tour. Please take a picture of the poster and send it to rareboard@aol.com. For details, please go to the home page.

We are not interested in the merchandise posters that the Darien House printed. The merchandise posters were sold at the show venues and not used in advertising. All the Darien House posters have a 15-1-69 date on them. The Experience performed two shows in Berlin. Below is the setlist of the first show. We could not find the setlist for the second show.

  • Fire

  • Hey Joe

  • Spanish Castle Magic

  • Foxy Lady

  • Red House

  • Come On (Part I)

  • Sunshine of Your Love

  • Purple Haze
