The Rolling Stones in 1965 rivaled the Beatles in popularity in America with a number one album “Out of Our Heads” and two hit singles “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” and “Get Off Of My Cloud .” It is hard to believe that the year before they had shows canceled because of low ticket sales. The Stone’s second U.S. tour supported the release of their hit album, and they played thirty-seven venues in thirty-eight days. For the first time, the band chartered a plane to help out on travel logistics. Several concert posters were created to advertise these shows. Promoters printed one-offs for the shows at the Philadelphia Convention Hall and the New York City Academy of Music. Also, the gigs in San Jose and Sacramento used a totally different design and layout.

Vintage Rock Posters is seeking concert posters for the Stones Second U.S. tour printed by the Globe Printing of Baltimore listed below. We offer a $20,000 reward for these Globe Rolling Stones boxing style posters.

Needless to say, the Stones were on top when they came to the U.S. in November 1965. The fans loved the show, but the local press was not  sure about the Stone’s gritty; heavier-driven version of Rock n Roll. Ironically, the Stones did covers of many songs written and preformed by many great Black American rhythm and blues artist like  Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Howlin' Wolf and Bo Diddley.

The Globe Stones concert posters had two different sizes 22 x 28 and 22 x 33 inches. Globe used bright DayGlo colors with a stock photo of the band. These bright colors and large titles made the posters stand out when displayed in record shop windows or when nailed on telephone poles. The Stones top hits in 1965 “Satisfaction” and “Get Off My Cloud” were included in the layout. The Vibrations had a hit song called My Girl Sloopy that the McCoys recorded and changed the name to “Hang on Sloopy.” The song became a huge hit that year. Also, Patti and the Blue Belles shared the stage with the Stones. Patti LaBelle would go on to become a huge disco star in the 1970s and had a lucrative solo career in the 1980s. The Rocking Ramrods played back up for both the Vibrations and the Blue Belles.

If you have a 1965 Globe Rolling Stones poster for one of the shows listed above, please take a picture of it and send to Vintage Rock Posters at rareboard@aol.com.
